Replacement CDi ignition unit for the following models:

CB400A UK Only 1978*

CB400T  Hawk USA – 1978-79

CB400T Dream Europe 1978-79

*The 1978 parts fiche shows the 30400-443-005 CDI unit as an OPTION for 1978 CB400A UK market Hondamatic models – ONLY where a Hitachi alternator and TIA01-20 CDi unit is found fitted. Many CB400A bikes share the Nippon Denso ignition and alternator that all other 400/450cc Hondamatic models use. Nippon Denso parts are not interchangeable with Hitachi components. It is essential to CHECK if you have a Nippon Denso or Hitachi CDi & Alternator.

If you are in doubt, look for the manufacturer’s name on the flywheel, check your existing CDi unit is stamped TIA01-20, or  070000-xxxx (Nippon Denso number). Count the wires (you should have 9). There is a photo of the Hitachi unit, above, for reference.

The Hitachi system was an advanced self-generating CDI system for its time, using additional generator windings to provide stable ignition advance control. Our technicians have taken care to ensure all of these features function as they should on our replacement version.

Today, many of these systems are over 40 years old and are beginning to require the electrical equivalent of a major engine overhaul. We have published a free troubleshooting guide that explains how the system works, the common faults and how to test it. Our workshops have the tooling and expertise to restore the precision timing windings, insulation layers and the heavier alternator windings.

One year warranty from date of purchase.
