Description
Rex’s replacement CDI unit for CB400, CB450DX, CM400 and CM450 twins fitted with units marked TIA01-20. Applicable to Honda part numbers 30400-413-305, 30400-443-005, 30400-443-015 and 30400-MC9-831.
Brand new, up-graded design from Rex’s, direct bolts on, direct plug in connectors, functions exactly as the original unit. The original Hitachi unit was fitted to a wide range of Honda CB, CM and related models and was used for over a decade, often under different model names in different markets.
The CDi box is easily identified by its nine wires, two mounting holes along the upper edge of the metal case and the marking TIA01-20.
Despite Honda using several different part numbers, there is only a minor variation, early (With Honda part number -413-) units had bullet connectors on the blue and white wires. All other versions use a 2-way block connector. We supply the additional bullet terminals required for these earlier models.
The Hitachi system was an advanced self-generating CDI system for its time, using additional generator windings to provide stable ignition advance control. Our technicians have taken care to ensure all of these features function as they should on our replacement version.
Today, many of these systems are over 40 years old and are beginning to require the electrical equivalent of a major engine overhaul. We have published a free troubleshooting guide that explains how the system works, the common faults and how to test it.

If you are in doubt, check your existing unit is stamped TIA01-20, count the wires (you should have 9) and check the mounting holes. There is a photo of the original unit, above, for reference.

A new CDi unit is only one part of the ignition system, so if a brand new ‘plug-in’ CDi unit does not fix the fault, or changes the symptoms, then your next action is to consider other parts in the system that may need to be replaced or repaired to clear the problem, especially as this is now a classic motorcycle with fairly complex electronics, all of which are now considerably over 20 years old and well past their expected design life.
