Our technicians are committed to ensuring your motorcycle performs as well as — and often better than — when it was new. This replacement unit has been developed and validated against original Yamaha ignition systems to ensure the timing characteristics accurately match factory specification.
Designed with matching wire colours and connectors for machines originally fitted with Yamaha CDI P/N: 3J0-85540-20-00 (box marked 3J0-20).
IMPORTANT – Confirm What Is Actually Fitted to Your Motorcycle
Due to model variations and market differences, parts books are not always reliable.
You must physically check your motorcycle before ordering as we cannot identify what is fitted to your machine on your behalf.
Check all of the following:
- Generator has ONE source coil only, with a BROWN wire to the CDI
- CDI source coil is mounted on the LEFT side of the stator (when fitted to the bike)
- Flywheel is stamped F3T251
- Flywheel has four “windows”

System Condition – Please Read
A CDI unit is only one part of the ignition system.
Fitting a plug in CDI into an ageing or faulty system may highlight existing faults elsewhere. Common issues include degraded wiring, poor earths, failing coils, or incorrect components.
If installing this unit does not resolve the fault — or changes the symptoms — further diagnosis of the entire ignition system will be required, particularly on machines over 20 years old.
Returns for testing where the unit is found to be fault-free are typically the result of misdiagnosis and are not covered under warranty. EVERY CDi unit is checked BEFORE it sent.
